How to Set Up Retargeting Pixels on Your Music Landing Page

A fan who pre-saves a release, streams a song, or lands on a tour page and leaves without buying a ticket isn't a lost opportunity by default, they're a retargeting audience waiting to be built. The catch is that none of that happens automatically. It requires a pixel, a small snippet of tracking code from Meta or Google, actually installed on the page collecting those actions in the first place.

What a pixel actually does

A retargeting pixel sits on a landing page and logs when a visitor takes an action, viewing the page, clicking a pre-save button, completing a streaming action. That log becomes an audience inside Meta Ads Manager or Google Ads that an artist can build a follow-up campaign around: an ad shown specifically to people who already pre-saved, promoting the release now that it's live, instead of an ad shown to a cold audience that's never heard of the artist.

Adding a pixel through landing page settings

On Sonikit, both a Meta Pixel ID and a Google Ads tag get added directly in a landing page's settings, without needing a developer or a separate tag-management setup. Once it's added, it tracks automatically on every visit to that page, no per-campaign reconfiguration required. This is part of Sonikit's ad retargeting suite, included on the Pro plan.

Track the action that actually matters, not just the page view

A page-view pixel alone only tells an advertiser that someone showed up. The more useful signal is tracking the specific action taken on the page, a completed pre-save, a follow, a streaming action, since that's what separates a fan who took a real interest from someone who bounced in two seconds. Building a retargeting audience around the action, not just the visit, keeps the resulting ad audience meaningfully warmer.

Build the audience before release day, not after

The biggest mistake in retargeting setup isn't a technical one, it's timing. A pixel installed the week a single drops has almost no audience built up yet. Installing it as soon as the pre-save campaign goes live means every fan who pre-saves over the following weeks adds to a retargeting pool that's ready to receive a release-day ad the moment the song is actually out.

Retargeting turns a campaign into a system

Without a pixel, every ad campaign starts from zero: a cold audience, no prior signal, no way to distinguish someone who already cares from someone who's never heard the music. With one installed early and tracking the right actions, each release adds to an audience that gets easier, and cheaper, to reach the next time around.
