Action Flow Steps: What Happens After a Trigger

Overview

Steps define what happens after an Action Flow trigger fires. When a fan interaction triggers an Action Flow, Sonikit executes each step in sequence, automating engagement across streaming, messaging, and audience management.

How Steps Work

Steps are:

  • Sequential (executed in order)

  • Instant (run immediately after the trigger)

  • Cross-channel (can span multiple platforms)

Each step builds on the previous one, allowing you to create multi-stage fan journeys.

Step Categories

Streaming Actions

Automatically perform streaming actions for the fan. Available steps:

  • Pre-save a release

  • Follow an artist

  • Add a release to library

  • Save future releases (NextSave opt-in)

Audience Management

Organize and grow your fan base. Available steps:

  • Add fan to segment

Messaging (SMS & Email)

Communicate directly with fans. Available steps:

  • Send a text

  • Send an email

đź’ˇSteps that send a text message count toward your your messaging usage credits. For a full breakdown, see: Action Flow Usage & Billing.

Social Messaging

Engage fans through Instagram. Available steps:

  • Send an Instagram direct message (DM) (Pro/Enterprise)

How Steps Execute

When a trigger fires:

  1. Step 1 runs

  2. Step 2 runs

  3. Step 3 runs

Each step is processed automatically with no additional input from the fan.

Example Flow

Trigger:

  • Fan texts keyword “PRESAVE”

Steps:

  1. Pre-save the release

  2. Follow the artist

  3. Add fan to “New Fans” segment

  4. Send confirmation text

Important Considerations

Some Steps Require Prior Conditions

Examples:

  • Sending a text requires an active Sonikit phone number

  • Sending an Instagram message requires a connected Instagram account

  • Streaming actions may require authentication

If requirements aren’t met, that step may be skipped or delayed.

Best Practices

  • Keep flows simple and focused

  • Avoid unnecessary steps

  • Use segments to organize fans for future campaigns

  • Pair actions with messaging to confirm outcomes
