How to Add a Custom Voice Message for Incoming Calls

Overview

When you register a phone number in Sonikit Messaging, that number is automatically enabled for voice calls. Fans can call your number to hear an audio voice message. By default, fans who call your number will hear the following message: “Thanks for calling! Please text START to subscribe.”

The Custom Voice Message feature, allows you replace that default message with your own audio greeting. This lets you make your call experience feel more personal, professional, and on-brand — whether that’s a simple welcome message or a short music clip.

The Custom Voice Message feature is available on:

  • Pro plan

  • Enterprise plan

If you’re on the Basic plan, you’ll still have the default automated voice message.

⚙️ How to Set Up a Custom Voice Message

Step 1: Go to Messaging Settings

  1. Log in to your Sonikit dashboard.

  2. Navigate to Messaging → Settings.

  3. Find the section labeled Voice Message.


Step 2: Choose Your Setup Method

Voice message audio must be 60 seconds or less and webm or mp3 format. You have two options for adding custom audio:

  • Record a new voice message

  • Upload an existing audio file


🎤 Option 1: Record a New Voice Message

  1. Click Record under the “Voice Message” section.

  2. If prompted, grant Sonikit permission to use your device’s microphone.

  3. Click the microphone button to start recording.

  4. Speak clearly and keep your message under 60 seconds.

  5. Click the button again to stop recording.

  6. Use Play to preview your message.

  7. If you’re happy with it, click Use this recording.

    • If not, click Record again to re-record.

  8. Click Save to confirm your changes.


📁 Option 2: Upload an Existing Audio File

  1. Click Upload under the “Voice Message” section.

  2. Select an audio file from your device (webm or mp3).

  3. After upload, use Play to preview the clip.

  4. If you’d like to replace it, click the delete icon and upload another.

  5. Click Save to finalize your settings.


🔍 Testing Your Voice Message

After saving:

  1. Use another phone to call your Sonikit number.

  2. You should hear your custom message play automatically.

  3. Make sure it’s clear, within 60 seconds, and ends cleanly (no long silences).


🚫 Important Notes

  • Fans cannot opt in by calling. They must text your opt-in keyword (e.g. “START” or “JOIN”).

  • Large or unsupported files will not upload. Stick to webm or mp3 under 60 seconds.

  • You can change your message anytime by recording or uploading a new file.


💡 Best Practices

  • Keep your audio under 45 seconds for best engagement.

  • End with a clear call-to-action (“Text START to join!”).

  • Use background music or sound effects sparingly to maintain clarity.

  • Update your message for new releases, tours, or campaigns.
