Create a Comment-to-DM Automation

Comment-to-DM automations automatically send an Instagram direct message when a fan comments on one of your posts.

This is one of the most popular ways to deliver links, exclusive content, pre-save campaigns, and promotional offers.

Create the Automation

  1. Open Action Flows.

  2. Click New Action Flow.

  3. Under Trigger, select When a Fan Comments on a Post.

Configure the Comment Trigger

Trigger on Any Comment

To trigger whenever a fan comments:

  1. Leave the keyword setting set to Any.

  2. Leave the post selection set to Any.

The automation will run for all comments across all posts.

Trigger on Specific Keywords

To require specific keywords:

  1. Change the keyword setting from Any to Specific.

  2. Enter one or more keywords.

Only comments containing those keywords will trigger the automation.

Trigger on a Specific Post

To use a single Instagram post:

  1. Change the post setting from Any to Specific.

  2. Select a post from the list of available thumbnails.

Only comments on the selected post will trigger the automation.

You can combine post selection and keyword matching for more targeted campaigns.

Add a Message Action

  1. Click Add an Action.

  2. Select Send an Instagram Message.

  3. Enter your message content.

Example:

"Thanks for your comment! Here's the link you requested."

Add Buttons

To include a button:

  1. Click Add a Button.

  2. Enter a button label.

  3. Enter a destination URL.

Example:

Button Label: Listen Now

URL: https://example.com

Save the Automation

Click Save in the upper-right corner.

You'll be returned to the Action Flows page where the automation will appear in your list of Action Flows.

Managing the Automation

From the Action Flows page:

  1. Locate the automation.

  2. Click the ellipsis menu on the automation card.

  3. Select:

    • Edit

    • Pause

    • Delete

The automation will begin processing qualifying comments immediately after activation.
