How to opt into SMS messaging

Sonikit allows users to sign up to receive SMS marketing messages. See below for a detailed walkthrough of how to sign up for SMS messaging, how consent is obtained, and how to revoke consent.

  1. Collect phone number

    1. First, the user's phone number is entered into the "Phone number" input

  2. Obtain consent from the user

    1. Users grant consent for SMS marketing messages by clicking the checkbox below the phone number input.

    2. The checkbox is unchecked by default and required.

    3. The checkbox provides express action from the user that they agree to the text accompanying the checkbox which includes:

      • SMS purpose ("marketing SMS messages").

      • Frequency ("up to 5 messages per month").

      • Opt-out instructions ("Reply STOP to unsubscribe")

  3. User submits the form

    1. Form submission cannot proceed without checking the box. This is ensured by both client side and server side validation.

    2. When the form is submitted, the consent timestamp, phone number, and consent text/version are securely stored on Sonikit's servers to maintain a record and proof of consent.

  4. To opt-out of messaging, reply STOP to unsubscribe

    1. When a user replies "STOP", Sonikit updates the consent record on our servers to set the date of that consent was revoked and unsubscribe the user from any further messaging.
